EVS project in Žetale, Slovenia, 15. July – 15. September 2014
Hello! I am Nikolina and I have spend two months in Žetale as a volunteer in Turistično društvo. I chose this organization because the main topic is tourism, it organizes many different activities, youth exchanges and this year EVS (European Voluntary Service). When I applied for the EVS project I did not know where the village exactly is but when I arrived I was surprised by many hills and nature. Everything is green. Many vineyards (whine is so good), cows and houses with flowers in the gardens.
I lived in Homestead house or Hotel California. For me it was really luxury house (big kitchen, room with balconies, garden). At the beginning it was strange living in front of the forest where every morning I heard sound of birds. When it was rain I could have enjoyed the sound of drops and leaves. It was calm and peaceful. Now I am missing it a little bit.
I had opportunity to visit some other part of Slovenia. In my opinion Slovenia is a rich and interesting country. It was the first time for me to see such a landscape even that I am from Serbia. I was a little bit shame because Slovenia is lovely country as well as people. They are friendly and funny. I do not know why I did not visit Slovenia before. I had feel that I am at home, you can guess why (language, culture, food).
During this two months we organized creative workshops with local children. They draw, made interesting things of paper, played games… We had fun and shared happiness. After each workshops children went home with their little creation and smile on their faces.
Behind this our aim was to attract people to pay more attention on Vuk’s homestead and other traditional museums in Haloze region which carry history of lifestyle in the past. Now if you pass Vuk’s homestead you can see black curtains with a little bit crazy draw and in the basement is photo exhibition of houses from same period.
For me it was the best two months in my life and EVS is great opportunity to connect different people, meet country and one nation. Sometimes we had many work, sometimes it was more relaxed but all the time was enjoyable. I learned some new things which will be useful for me and I am sharing with colleagues in my NGO. And for sure I have great memories of all members of Turistično društvo and Žetale.
