Visit and get to know Žetale – the western part of forested Haloze
Already the ancient Celts together with their successors the Romans have realized that we live in a beautiful, human-friendly environment, area with lovely hills and valleys rich in vineyards giving Haloze special one of a kind recognition far and beyond.
Žetale’s history dates back already 1100 B.C. the latest. Its beauty and uniqueness gives it rich sacred architecture of the church which can boast with rich historical and artistic past of the Slovenian peasant.
Geographically we can locate the area in the middle of the major tourist centres such as TermePtuj, the oldest city in Slovenia – Ptuj, Rogaška Slatina spa famous for its unique mineral water, spa center in Krapin in neighbouring Croatia as well as Donačka mountain, natural beauty with rare species of plants. By car it takes only 30 minutes to reach any of these tourist centers.
Žetale is a good place for individuals who would like to enjoy the nature, to relax and recharge their power of body and mind. All this is enabled by the different walking paths, one of which is the Haloze hiking trail that runs along the whole region of Haloze all the way to Donačka mountain, path Žetalskega Jožeta and forest trail, established by the students of primary school Žetale. A traveller can take a walk along the peaceful green forest, pick up mushrooms and other forest fruits for his whole family. The hiking eco path (PEP) is also well arranged passing through an extensive part of our region, between hills and valleys along the pleasant murmuring of the stream and the possibility of consumption of pure natural drinking water. Wine shops, restaurants and all other villagers can enliven your day with a drop of red wine and homemade food.
Within the area of Žetale you are provided with an access to the established cycling paths along Haloze, runway for paragliding as well as the tourist zone Haloze-Zagorje which has to offer even more varieties from the region.
